I-693 Vaccine Issues: Medical Contraindication, Missing Records, or Waiver?

I-693 Vaccine Issues: Medical Contraindication, Missing Records, or Waiver?

Vaccination problems can delay an adjustment of status case even when every other part of the filing is strong. The I-693 medical exam must be completed by a designated civil surgeon, and vaccine findings are recorded inside the sealed medical packet.

Not every vaccine issue is the same. Missing records may require a blood titer, repeat vaccination, or documentation from a prior doctor. A medical contraindication is usually handled by the civil surgeon on the I-693. A personal, religious, or moral objection is different and may require a separate waiver analysis before USCIS can approve the green card.

Applicants should not guess or alter vaccine records. Bring all available childhood, school, military, pharmacy, and public health records to the civil surgeon appointment. If the civil surgeon marks a vaccine as not medically appropriate, ask for a clear explanation before the sealed packet is sent to USCIS.

New Horizons Legal helps adjustment applicants identify whether a vaccine issue is a records problem, a medical problem, or a waiver problem. Sorting that out early can prevent avoidable RFEs and help the medical exam support approval.
