VAWA Self-Petition Evidence Checklist

VAWA Self-Petition Evidence Checklist

VAWA allows certain spouses, children, and parents of U.S. citizens or permanent residents to self-petition without relying on an abusive family member. Evidence quality is often the deciding factor.

Most petitions need proof of qualifying relationship, shared residence, abuse or extreme cruelty, and good moral character. Useful evidence can include police reports, medical notes, counseling records, affidavits, photographs, and communication records.

If official records are limited, detailed affidavits become even more important. They should explain incidents, frequency, effects, and context in a clear timeline.

Confidentiality protections are central in VAWA cases. Work with counsel who understands trauma-informed preparation and can build a complete I-360 package.

Immigration consultations available, subject to attorney review.
