B-2 Visa for Medical Treatment in the United States
B-2 Visa for Medical Treatment in the United States
A B-2 visitor visa may be used for temporary medical treatment in the United States, but the applicant must show a real treatment plan, ability to pay, and intent to leave after the visit. The case should be documented before the visa interview and again before travel.
Useful evidence can include a diagnosis from the treating doctor abroad, a letter from the U.S. medical provider, estimated treatment costs, appointment information, proof of funds or sponsor support, travel plans, and evidence of ties outside the United States. The explanation should be specific, consistent, and realistic.
A medical visit is not the same as moving to the United States for indefinite care. Long or repeated stays can raise questions about immigrant intent, public charge concerns, or whether the visitor is using B-2 status for a purpose not allowed by the visa.
New Horizons Legal helps families organize B-2 medical treatment evidence, prepare consular interview documents, and review extension or change-of-plan risks after arrival.
