Can my family be included in my asylum application?

Last reviewed: January 15, 2025

Your spouse and unmarried children under 21 can usually be included as derivatives. They must be listed on your application and meet eligibility rules.

Derivative family members do not file separate I-589 forms if they are included with you.

Failing to update family information or missing age limits can cause separations.

Provide accurate biographic details and keep passports and birth certificates ready.
